Using Grouping Strategies to Overcome Homework Hurdles
Yesterday we reviewed common self-help strategies that allow the students to rely on themselves. Today we're going to look at ways students can help each other.
1. Grouping students by homework content or grade. Students from the same homeroom can help each other with their work; likewise students from different homerooms, but in the same grade and subject area, can also give each other aid.
2. Inviting students to work in pairs. This is a good alternative when the homeroom or grade approach isn't applicable.
3. Collaborating with older or younger classes. This technique allows for cross age tutoring, allowing older students to develop their leadership skills while providing younger students with more attention and help.
4. Teaching mini-lessons to a small group. Often times students' homeroom teachers will stay after class to provide mini-lessons that reinforce and explain the homework. Classroom Leaders can also implement this strategy!
