Favorite Friday

Favorite Friday can be used to explore the best activities of the week.

It's Friday! Many after school programs do something special on Friday. One idea we like to use is Favorite Friday. On Friday's we revisit the favorite books, games, and activities of the week. It works best when you involve students in a hands-on activity for finding out their favorite books.

Favorite Book Voting

Display the four books for that week. Invite a student to come up and say the title and author of each book. Have another student hand out LitART Book Voting slips (or make your own.) Students select the book they liked most. Tell students if they provide a written reason, the vote is worth two points rather than one. Time to tally the results.

  1. Collect the votes in a bag.
  2. Choose three students to be the vote tally team.
  3. One student stands at the book display.
  4. The other two students read the votes and announce the results one vote at a time. One person says the vote result aloud, the other takes the vote and verifies.
  5. Each vote is tallied above the book on the board.
  6. After all votes are tallied, all students determine the total for each book.

Okay, so what was your favorite book this week?
