Questions and Answers Make the Perfect Pair

It's that little space between reading the book and having students write in their journals. Staff often don't give it enough attention, but the comprehension portion of literacy is vital for student development. Here's an activity that takes a little preparation to carry out, and really pays out once the students start playing.

1. Create a set of index cards with questions.

2. Create a second set with answers.

3. Shuffle and then distribute the cards.

4. When you say "Q & A" students have two minutes to find the answer to their question (or vice versa).

5. Give a ten second warning.

6. Say, "freeze."

7. Ask each pair to read the question and answer aloud.
