Students Learn Rhythm through Repetition

It's always nice to have an activity that includes the whole class.  Machines works on this level; it's also a great recreation activity, builds on students' coordination and cooperation skills, and creates a sense of community spirit in the classroom.

1. Arrange students into groups of four.

2. One student starts by making up a body movement and a sound.

3. The player repeats the movement and sound over and over.

4. The next player connects to the first by adding another movement and sound.

5. Players continue adding to the machine until every player is a part of the whole.

6. The machine then speeds up until it breaks down, and all students collapse into a pile.
