After completing the LitART CHOICES curriculum students will be able to

  • Understand and define 192 key concepts
  • Describe the achievements of 192 influential people
  • Use 576 new vocabulary words

Overview

CHOICES is a fun, activity-driven curricula designed especially for middle school students in after school settings.  Each engaging activity includes an overview of a key concept; a brief biography of an important person related to that concept; a word collection of essential vocabulary; and a featured activity to help students experience the concept.  At the end of each theme, students play a trivia game to see what they learned.

Dance, drama, and music are only the beginning of the wonders that await students in the CHOICES: Performing Arts section. Here the traditional meets the avant-guard. Johnny Cash rubs shoulders with Andrew Lloyd Webber. Euripides shares a laugh with Neil Simon and Gregory Hines tap dances with the Ramones.

Choices - Science - Example

Science

Explore the inner workings of the universe with the outer edge of your imagination.  CHOICES: Science takes thumbnails of great contributors to science and blows them up into exciting, dynamic classroom experiences. Experience the Aurora Borealis and catch a solar flare's worth of tan, all while learning about everyone from Isaac Newton to Jane Goodall.

See the world through an artist's eye. CHOICES: Fine Arts explores the art movements that have shaped history, studying both the styles that fill the Louvre, Impressionism, Abstract art, etc, and the artists such as Picasso and Dali whose contributions helped redefine how people look at paintings.

Math

Students get an idea of what makes the world tick, turn, and spin as they go through the sections of CHOICES: Math.  From Euclid's geometry to Mandelbrot's Fractals, the different people and theories that form the backbone of mathematics are explored.

Sports

From national past times to the fringe of the fringe, CHOICES: Sports explores the games that make and shape people's lives. Take to the rapids in a kayak next to Nikki Kelly, or become a dragon under the tutelage of Bruce Lee. Anything and everything is possible within these pages!
