Phonemic Awareness

The Bo Bug Shared Reading Program builds phonemic awareness using a variety of oral language games. Fred Bird helps you learn to hear the sounds in oral language through segmenting, blending, and manipulating phonemes.

Students will

Identify phonemes (speech sounds)
Learn how to segment words into sounds
Make new words by combining or changing the sounds in words
Play oral language games using words from the story

Phonemic awareness is the foundation for successful reading development.
