Phonemic Awareness

The Bo Bug Shared Reading Program builds phonemic awareness using a variety of oral language games. Fred Bird helps you learn to hear the sounds in oral language through segmenting, blending, and manipulating phonemes.

Students will

  • Identify phonemes (speech sounds)
  • Learn how to segment words into sounds
  • Make new words by combining or changing the sounds in words
  • Play oral language games using words from the story
Phonemic awareness is the foundation for successful reading development.
