Students participating in the CAFE Project in Jefferson County School District made gains of between 16 and 47 percent as measured using a 10-point scoring rubric during "book talk" oral presentations.

Students gave a book talk at the beginning of the school year and at the end of the school year. In between the two book talks, students learned the keys of effective oral presentations through daily LitART Curriculum experiences.

After school staff used LitART's award- winning picture books and drama response activities to build student's oral language and presentation skills.

"We have never seen our Native American and Latino students so engaged in learning," shared Ted Viramonte, Director of Alternative Learning Programs for Jefferson County School District.
