LitART Wins for Grayson County

Three New Community Learning Centers Will Benefit From LitART's Innovative Approach to Learning

The results of the 2008-2009 Virginia Community Learning Center Competition are in. Grayson County has been awarded $600,000 to open three new community learning centers for the Character, Reading, Education, Arts, Tutoring, and Enrichment (CREATE) Program.  CREATE will provide academic support and educational enrichment to students throughout the county.

The grants were written in partnership with LitART, and all the centers will use the LitART literacy curriculum.  This win builds on an earlier award issued for the 2006-2007 cohort, when Baywood Elementary School was awarded funding.

Paul Ahrens, the president of Global Learning, Inc., says, "This win builds on Global Learning's growing presence in Virginia."

Doug Lawson, the State and Federal Grant Coordinator for Grayson County, expressed his pleasure and anticipation for CREATE's potential in the county.

"These grants,  when combined with the one already at Baywood Elementary school, have the potential to bring 2.4 million in after-school funding for the children and families of Grayson County."
